Celebrate Independence Day!

independence-day-fireworks24th of July is just around the corner and now is the time to start planning your Independence Day weekend. From fireworks to parades to festivals, Atlanta and its surrounding areas have a lot to offer residents this holiday weekend.

Independence Day Celebration in Alpharetta

The City of Alpharetta’s Independence Day celebration on July 4 will be even better than last year’s. The event is held at Wills Park and on the Event Lawn behind Alpharetta Community Center. From 5-8 pm children’s games and activities will be held on the Event Lawn and food vendors will be around the park from 5-9 pm. At 6 pm local bands will kick off the event followed by a spectacular fireworks display beginning at dusk. You can watch the fireworks from the Event Lawn or, if you are one of the lucky few who live in Hanover Pointe or Hanover Place you can watch them from your own backyard.

4th of July Citizen’s Parade in Milton

Milton Fourth of July Citizen's Parade 2008If you are looking for more of a down-home community celebration, the City of Milton will continue the new tradition of involving the whole community like it did last year. Last year’s Fourth of July Citizen’s Parade was such a huge success that they want to make it into an annual tradition. All Milton residents are welcome to decorate their wagons, bikes, pets and even themselves to help celebrate our nation’s independence. The parade route begins at the corner of Deerfield Parkway and Webb Road at 10 am on Saturday, July 4. After the parade, face painting, balloon animals, food and beverages will be back at city hall waiting for the fun to begin. Residents of our Deerfield Green homes can walk right out their front doors to join the parade that begins only feet from the community’s entrance. Then it’s back home for some lunch and then off to the festivities!

Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta

A great way to spend your 4th of July is by cheering on your neighbors as they participate in Atlanta’s popular Peachtree Road Race sponosred by the AJC. Every 4th of July 55,000 ametuer and professional runners line up to participate in the 10k that has been a part of Atlanta tradition since 1970. The race begins on Peachtree Road at Lenox Square Mall. After mile five runners turn east onto 10th Street where the finish line will be next to Piedmont Park. The race begins at 7:30 a.m., so come line the sidewalks along the course and cheer on your fellow Atlantans as they take part in this annual Independence Day road race. Later that evening, race participants and supporters can enjoy the largest fireworks show in the southeast at Lenox Square in Buckhead. Live music starts at 6:00 p.m. with fireworks beginning around 9:40 p.m.

4th of July is a great day to celebrate our nation with family and friends. These are just a few of the Independence Day celebrations going on in metro Atlanta. Residents at all 26 of Bowen Family Homes‘ Atlanta communities can celebrate the day at numerous local events.
