A Penny For Your Thoughts
By
So maybe you can still buy something with a penny. I guess it just depends on who you ask. We have gotten a lot of great responses and numerous suggestions on our blog, Facebook and Twitter about what you can do and or buy with a penny.
For Heather Rowser, thinking about what she could buy with a penny evoked sweet memories of childhood. She wrote, “I think I can remember when I was 7 buying a small bazooka bubble gum for a penny….I think they are like .10 now!!!”
For others like Chris Puckett, his response gave us a bit of a chuckle. He wrote, “Yeah, it costs the treasury department about 1.46 cents to press one! In addition, they paid a lot of money recently to have a new reverse image…..genius!”
Jim Reilley’s response, no doubt put things in perspective about the current status of our economy. “The coin’s demise is evident at convenience stores where you can take one or leave one in the penny tray. You can pay the .009 a gallon that gas stations tack on to the end of their prices. Some people save pennies until they have enough to purchase something that they wouldn’t ordinarily buy. Watch your pennies and the dollars take care of themselves is what my Grandmother used to say. These times, while not good are a “wake up” call for many people who live beyond their means. Many people are watching their pennies now…”
Jessica Cahill came up with perhaps the most answers on what you could buy. She said for a penny she could buy “a gumball, sticker, paperclip, rubberband, a shinier penny, a smile, a piece of paper and the giggle of a child who wants your penny.”
Perhaps the most intriguing response came from Bowen Family Homes’ blog from Dormina Davis. Ms. Davis wrote, “Hello, Bowen Family staff please consider letting my family buy one of your homes for a penny. Please make an exception. I am 38 years old. My Birthday is October 25th. Please answer us. I am begging you and I am not going to breath until you answer me………………………………….SMILE. This is my ultimate dream, please help my family.”
