If you’re a first-time home buyer who is considering purchasing a home in the next few months, head on over to your favorite Bowen Family Homes site today because with the first-time home buyers tax credit about to expire, now is the best time to purchase a new home.
Tell me more about this tax credit…
Right now the government is offering a first-time home buyer tax credit that does not have to be repaid to any first-time home buyer who closes their contract on or after January 1, 2009 and before December 1, 2009. This means you essentially have a month left to take advantage of this deal.
What makes someone a first time home buyer and is there an income limit?
A first time home buyer is anyone who has not owned a principal residence during the three-year period prior to the purchase of their new home. Single taxpayers with incomes of up to $75,000 and married couples with incomes of up to $150,000 qualify for the full tax credit.
What would I get?
The first-time home buyer’s tax credit is equal to 10% of the home’s purchase price up to a maximum of $8,000.
So I’ll wait and close on Nov. 30th…
Waiting is never the best option. In order to qualify for the tax credit your contract must be complete on November 30th. As this will be the last day for the tax credit, lenders are going to be swamped with people waiting. To ensure the purchase of your new home goes smoothly with no headache’s it is best to close no later then the week prior to Thanksgiving and ideally you should close the first or second week of November.
