Cobb County Approves Balanced Calendar
By
Residents of Caswell Overlook, Sweetwater Landing and other Cobb County neighborhoods will be seeing some changes to the academic calendar when it’s time to send their students back to school this fall 2010. On November 11 the Cobb County Board of Education approved a balanced calendar for Cobb County schools, which will take effect with the 2010-2011 school year. With the new balanced calendar, students will begin school the first week of August and end the Friday prior to Memorial Day in May. These changes create a shorter summer break for students, but allow for longer vacation periods during the school year.
Students will receive one-week breaks in September and February and a full week off for Thanksgiving. The first semester will end on Friday, December 17th giving students two full weeks of vacation before they return to school on January 3rd. In addition, students will have various one day breaks throughout the year for holidays and early release dates.
Once the balanced calendar takes effect, Cobb County Schools will monitor the impact of the changes on key operational areas. These key areas include student achievement, attendance and discipline. Teachers will also be monitored on moral and retention.
Cobb County Schools are known for their high education standards and quality teachers, both of which are key factors when selecting a home. Bowen Family Homes has two great communities in Cobb County, Caswell Overlook in Marietta and Sweetwater Landing in Powder Springs.
