Don’t Forget About Your Tax Credit!

With the extension of the 2009 tax credit, 2010 is the perfect time for first-time, repeat and move-up home buyers to purchase a new home today.

First-time homebuyers are eligible for up to $8,000 and repeat or move-up buyers are now eligible for up to $6,500.

The tax credit is available for homes purchased after November 6, 2009 and on or before April 30, 2010 and the home must close no later than June 30, 2010. Repeat buyers, are eligible for the tax credit if they have lived in their current home five consecutive years out of the past eight years.

Income limits for the tax credit have also increased. Single taxpayers with incomes up to $125,000 and married couples with a joint income of $250,000 are now eligible. If your income exceeds either of these limits by $20,000 or less you might be able to qualify for a partial tax credit.
