This Saturday, May 8, residents in the Lawrenceville area of Gwinnett County have a couple of free, family-oriented activities to take the kids to.
Homeowners in theĀ Bowen Family Homes new homes community of Freeman Crossing, or new townhomes community of Alcovy Falls, are just over a mile away from Freeman’s Mill Park, where a grand opening celebration will begin at 10 a.m. The day will kick off with a ribbon cutting, followed by free activities for the kids, story telling, tours and historic demonstrations. Freeman’s Mill ParkĀ features a beautiful historic restored grist mill. A half-mile paved walking trail provides a wonderful place for exercise, and the children’s playground reflects the mill’s history with a child-sized, plastic water wheel. Your mom made you chicken soup when you were sick, encouraged you when you had a bad day, drove you to endless sports games (or concerts, or scout meetings) and did it all with a smile.
Mother’s Day is coming up May 9th, and a great way to show your mom how much you care is by taking her out to brunch. If you happen to live in one of the Bowen Family Homes communities of Deerfield Green or The Preserve at John’s Creek, you have a plethora of brunch options in the North Fulton area. Take Me Out to the Ball Game!

The festival atmosphere begins blocks away from Turner Field. Tailgaters fill parking lots with blaring radios, banter of past seasons and food sizzling away on portable grills. Street vendors hock their discounted Braves shirts, certainly a bargain that can’t be passed up. The sun is shining and the stadium radiates. Inside the stadium, the din of the crowd is deafening. Travis Tritt takes his place on the field for the National Anthem and the game begins.
Opening Day is a baseball experience like no other. This year, for the first time since 2004, the Braves’ first game of the season is Opening Day. They will face off with the Chicago Cubs for a three-game series before hitting the road. The first game of the series began at 4:10 today and the excitement from the crowd was evident. Everywhere you turned smiling faces were heading to seats, Braves gear filled the stands and the crowd roared as both teams ran onto the field.

Something has always intrigued me about rock quarries; probably because it’s not too easy to tour one. Sure, you can hear the explosions blasting away the rock at regular intervals, but seeing that massive crater in the earth has always been on my to-do list.
Does anybody else feel this way? Well May 1st, Bowen Family Homes residents can check it off your list at the BoulderDash 5k Fitness Run/Walk and Corporate Challenge. Lafarge Quarry in Cumming is opening their gates to walk/run participants as then finish line of the 5k. The quarry is active and prides itself on being environmentally responsible.
The registration fee for the run/walk goes toward two great causes: the Forsyth County Park and Recreation Department and the “Envision a Fit Forsyth” program. Read More→
