What Can You Buy for a Penny?
Posted by: | Comments
Bowen Family Homes wants to know what you can buy for a penny. You know, the zinc and copper plated coin that sits in your pocket until it makes its way into your car’s console, escapes onto the ground or into a little round tray at the cash register at your local convenience store. If you are like most of us, your answer will be not much.
You might feel differently about this Lincoln faced currency if you lived in another time and place. In the 16th Century, a half of a penny could get you a loaf of bread. Quite expensive, mind you, if you consider a farm laborer at that time only made four pennies a day. Fast forward to the 19th century and a penny could buy you a loaf of bread, which was a little more cost effective considering men driving horse drawn streetcars in New York were making upwards of $1.75 a day for 14 to 16 hours of work. Now as we find ourselves in the 21st century, we are left wondering what if anything a penny can get us.
We want you to share with us what you can do with a penny. Many people assume that penny is no longer good for anything. Do you agree? Disagree? Surely there is something out there you can still buy. Tell us what you think. We want to hear from you, so please comment on this post!

It’s so hard to choose - do I want to stay at the pool where I can relax and splash around or do I want to go home to watch a movie?
Summer is full of tough decisions - would I rather have a bomb pop or a fudgesicle? Play a pick-up game of basketball or volleyball? Go to the beach or go to the lake?
Well the Alpharetta City Pool is making one of those decisions a little easier by offering the “Friday Night Dive In” Friday July 17th. Reminiscent of the drive-in theater your parents used to go to, the pool at Wills Park has added its own twist. Bring your floaties and inner tubes and relax in the cool water alongside friends and family while watching a favorite movie. The pool will open at 7:30 pm and the movie will begin at dusk.
For 2009 pool pass holders, this event is free and for everyone else it is only $3. You can’t beat that price for a movie Read More→
