Take Me Out to the Ball Game!

Posted by: Bowen | Comments (0)

Bowen Family HomesThe festival atmosphere begins blocks away from Turner Field. Tailgaters fill parking lots with blaring radios, banter of past seasons and food sizzling away on portable grills. Street vendors hock their discounted Braves shirts, certainly a bargain that can’t be passed up. The sun is shining and the stadium radiates. Inside the stadium, the din of the crowd is deafening. Travis Tritt takes his place on the field for the National Anthem and the game begins.

Opening Day is a baseball experience like no other. This year, for the first time since 2004, the Braves’ first game of the season is Opening Day. They will face off with the Chicago Cubs for a three-game series before hitting the road. The first game of the series began at 4:10 today and the excitement from the crowd was evident. BoulderDash 5k Benefits Forsyth County

Posted by: Bowen | Comments (0)

BoulderDash 5kSomething has always intrigued me about rock quarries; probably because it’s not too easy to tour one. Sure, you can hear the explosions blasting away the rock at regular intervals, but seeing that massive crater in the earth has always been on my to-do list.

Does anybody else feel this way? Well May 1st, Bowen Family Homes residents can check it off your list at the BoulderDash 5k Fitness Run/Walk and Corporate Challenge. Lafarge Quarry in Cumming is opening their gates to walk/run participants as then finish line of the 5k. The quarry is active and prides itself on being environmentally responsible.

The registration fee for the run/walk goes toward two great causes: the Forsyth County Park and Recreation Department and the “Envision a Fit Forsyth” program. Read More→

The Big Game is more than just football: it’s about good-ole fashioned getting together and stuffing our faces.  Game-day food is always important, whether you’re hosting a large group or just the family.  Here are some tips to ensure food nirvana this Sunday.

Make it yourself

Take out food is greasy and expensive.  Sure it may taste good, but you can make the same items cheaper and healthier.  We want to stuff our faces, not have early heart attacks.  Several grocery chains have great sales on traditional game-day food.  While you’re doing the grocery shopping, be sure to pick up plenty of paper towels and trash bags. You’ll be glad to have them around when it’s time to clean up. Read More→
